General talk:
The Physical Review family of journals have long hosted some of the best work in physical science. In this talk I will give some background on the journals, focusing in particular on the flagship journal, Physical Review Letters (PRL). I will then discuss, from my perspective as an editor for PRL, the importance of the peer review process. Finally, I will leave you with some thoughts on the value of society publishers, and why supporting society journals supports the physics community.
Writing workshop:
Writing and publishing papers is an integral part of the scientific enterprise. It is how researchers present their work to the world and archive it for the benefit of future generations. Successfully publishing a paper in a top peer-reviewed journal, such as Physical Review Letters (PRL), can greatly impact the trajectory of a young researcher’s career, yet the keys to success can often seem opaque. In this workshop I will attempt to demystify scientific publication and facilitate an open discussion on effective writing and how to navigate the peer review process.
